Married couple who died following hit-and-run incident in Dublin named locally

A man in his 40s has been arrested and is currently being questioned by gardaí.

TWO PEOPLE WHO died following a hit-and-run in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 last night have been named locally as husband and wife Anthony Hogg and Georgina Hogg-Moore.

One person has been arrested in connection with the incident which took place yesterday evening at around 5.45pm on the Blanchardstown Road North in Dublin 15.

Four people were involved in the collision. Georgina (30s) was pronounced dead at the scene while Anthony (40s) passed away in hospital overnight, gardaí said this morning.

No other serious injuries were reported. The driver of the car did not remain at the scene.

Tributes have been paid by local representatives and residents.

Fianna Fáil councillor and Deputy Mayor of Fingal John-Kingsley Onwumereh told The Journal that the local community is shocked and saddened by this incident, which comes one week after another man was killed in a separate collision in Dublin 15.

“It’s absolutely devastating,” he said. “The fact that this couple have passed as a result of this incident is absolutely reprehensible. I’m glad to know that the guards that are investigating the circumstances around this.”

He added: “It is really very shocking for the entire Dublin 15 community to learn that we’ve had three fatalities within one week and within the Christmas period. It’s extremely sad and my heart goes out to all the families involved.”

Posts on Facebook by local residents have condemned the incident and described the couple’s deaths as shocking and heartbreaking. Many have sent their condolences to the victims’ families.

A group of some 50 people attended a locally-organised vigil this evening at the site of the incident. People left flowers for the deceased couple while others held balloons.

Solidarity TD for Dublin West Ruth Coppinger sent her “deepest sympathies” to the families of the victims in a post on X this morning. 

Sinn Féin TD Paul Donnelly said this morning: “Deepest condolences to the family, friends and neighbours of the two people who died following a horrific hit and run today along the Blanchardstown Road south.”

“We simply cannot imagine the pain, hurt and anger of the family and community.”

A man (40s) was arrested in connection with the incident yesterday evening and remains detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in Dublin.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone with information — or road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Blanchardstown Road North between 5pm and 6pm yesterday who have camera or dash-cam footage — to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station at (01) 6667000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
